What is VioroBot?

VioroBot is Vioro’s automated web crawler that performs website security and observability monitoring. Our bot provides essential monitoring services to our customers and may occasionally crawl websites for analytical and service improvement purposes.

What does it do?

Our bot performs the following activities:

• Customer Monitoring Services:

  • Uptime monitoring and availability checks
  • Broken link detection and resource validation
  • TLS certificate expiration monitoring
  • Security vulnerability scanning
  • Performance metrics and page load analysis

• Service Analytics: Occasional crawling for service improvement and analytical purposes

⚠️ Important for Vioro Customers

If you are a Vioro customer, DO NOT block VioroBot!

Blocking our bot will:

• ❌ Break your monitoring services - We cannot monitor what we cannot access
• ❌ Trigger dashboard alerts - You’ll receive notifications about monitoring failures
• ❌ Disable security scanning - Vulnerability detection will stop working
• ❌ Stop uptime monitoring - Service availability checks will fail

If you’re unsure whether you’re a customer, check your Vioro dashboard or contact support.

Bot Behavior & Compliance

VioroBot operates with strict guidelines:

• ✅ Respects robots.txt - Follows crawling preferences and exclusions (except for customer monitoring when necessary)
• ✅ Rate Limited - Makes requests at reasonable intervals (1-2 requests per second)
• ✅ Follows redirects - Handles 301/302 redirects appropriately
• ✅ GDPR Compliant - Operates under strict European data protection standards
• ✅ Clear Identification - Always identifies itself in User-Agent headers

User Agent String

Our bot identifies itself using this User-Agent string format:

viorobot/v{version} (+https://vioro.io/bot)

Blocking VioroBot (Non-Customers Only)

If you prefer that our bot doesn’t crawl your website, you can block it using robots.txt:

Before Blocking - Please Check:

1. Are you a Vioro customer?
2. Does someone in your organization use our monitoring services?
3. Do you have any domains monitored by Vioro?

If yes to any of these, do not block our bot or your monitoring services will fail.

Privacy & Data Handling

• We collect only publicly available information from websites
• All data processing complies with GDPR and applicable privacy laws
• No personal information or private user content is stored
• Data is used exclusively for monitoring services and service improvement
• All data is hosted within the European Economic Area (EEA)
• Customer monitoring data is processed under our service agreement

• Protocol: HTTP/HTTPS
• Request Method: Primarily HEAD/GET requests
• Crawl Frequency: Varies by service
• Request Timeout: 10 seconds per request
• Retries: Limited retry attempts for failed requests
• Respect for: robots.txt (exceptions for customer monitoring), meta noindex, HTTP status codes

Troubleshooting for Customers

If you’re experiencing monitoring issues:

1. Check if VioroBot is blocked in your robots.txt or firewall
2. Verify our bot can access the URLs you’re monitoring
3. Review your dashboard for specific error messages
4. Contact support if problems persist
